Jack Gaffney
Jack Gaffney is a 22-year-old composer, singer-songwriter and pianist in his fourth year of undergraduate music composition studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Writing music and performing since a very young age, the Boulder native aspires to merge the worlds of classical art music and contemporary pop music through his future projects. In the fall of 2019, he spent a semester abroad, studying composition at the University of Sydney, Australia. His musical influences vary from composers such as John Adams and Igor Stravinsky to rock artists such as U2 and Beck. The themes of his music include mindfulness, mental-health awareness and natural landscapes. In 2018 his composition FLUX, commissioned by the CU College of Music, was premiered by the university’s BAD Ensemble. In the spring of 2019, Jack received the Undergraduate Composition Award from the CU College of Music for his first string quartet, Heart Shadows (premiered by the AJAX Quartet). Outside of music, Jack spends most of his free time hiking and skiing in the Rocky Mountains.
